Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield's first annual

Community Fest 2004

held on Saturday, June 26 from 12 Noon to 2 PM at Shoal Creek Park was a a success and enjoyed by hundreds of participants. Hundreds of people enjoyed the free ice cream, pony rides, and the many free items provided. A special thanks is given to the DeKalb County Police Department who did an excellent job helping the participants safely park their vehicles and safely enter and exit the park.

Consistent with Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield's support for community involvement in our government, many other candidates were present at this event. Vernon Jones, Derrick Alexander Pope, Mark Scott, Frank L. Swindle, Judge Carl McCalla, and many other individuals who are trying to serve the people were there to speak directly with the people.

Information on valuable services was provided to the attendees of this first annual Community Fest. The DeKalb County Fire Department provided smoke alarms and information on keeping your home safe. The South DeKalb Business Incubator was there providing information for entrepreneurs on starting a business. The Refugee Family Services provided information on the education and economic opportunities that it provides for refugee/immigrant women and children. Decatur Even Start was at Community Fest 2004 providing information on its literacy programs. There were many other organizations there that provided information to help the citizens of DeKalb County.

Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield has always supported the preservation and creation of green spaces that provide value to the lives of her constituents. Thus it was appropriate that her first annual Community Fest was held at Shoal Creek Park, an important and valuable green space in our community.
